If a home owner only has guests over seldomly, keeping the guest room cleaned once a week using items such as vacuum cleaners, carpet cleaners and doing simple dusting of  furniture items and floors is a great way to keep the room well maintained and clean. If the guest room is not used during regular times then adding potted plants to the room will add freshness and they can always be rearranged or moved to other rooms once guests arrive.
