Making Space in your Home

There are many unused spaces within our homes, apartments, or condos that we can use if we just look in the right places such as beneath the stairs or inside of the walls.  Many of the nooks and cavities are great for absorbing our clutter and helping to bring order to a home décor.
One trick in utilizing space is to build shelves and drawers underneath a staircase.  With these shelves and drawers, occupants can place items such as books, keepsakes, toys, art and craft supplies and more.  Before this can be done it is best to begin sorting items that are cluttering a room a placing them in one area.  Next, formulate three piles which may include items you want to give away, items for long time storage purposes, and everyday use items.  The items that are for long time storage can be placed inside plastic tubs and put on the very top shelves.  You can give the donation pile right away which will instantly free space up in your home and the day to day items can be put on the bottom shelves or in areas that you can get them easily.
A creative look at utilizing space in your residence is to build cabinets outdoors.  Building cabinets may help you with storage needs such as garden tools, cleaning supplies, yard equipment, old memorabilia, or other items that you no longer have space for in the home. You may also opt to build shelves in the garage area put your wood working tools and supplies on them.   If all of the items in the garage area are placed on shelves, this may also help you convert the garage area into an additional room. During your planning period, ensure that all drawers and doors are able to be opened fully within the reconfigured area.  Make sure you have left enough room to walk around.
