No-Sew Window Treatments

There are several ways to dress up your windows without ever having to sew a single stitch! Some of these ideas involve little to no money and very little effort while others include a little more cost and technical know-how. For an easy window valance use a sheet or other piece of fabric and drape over a swag holder at the corners of your window or using a couple of pieces of contrasting fabrics drape the fabric over an existing curtain rod. Experiment with different draping/ swag techniques to achieve the look you desire. Dress up the look with additional items such as a small grapevine wreath or swag placed at the corners or over the valance. Sheets work great for this, as all of the edges are already finished. Dress up old blinds with new color using spray paint, stencils, stickers, or even wallpaper or fabric cut outs decoupaged onto the blind. It is important to thoroughly wash the blinds before decorating to remove all residual dust, dirt, and/or grime so that your designs will stick. Use spray paints that are meant for the material your blinds are made from such as plastic, vinyl, or cloth. To allow a design that overlaps each blind section, close the blind and lay out your fabric, wallpaper, or sticker design on the blind as you would like it to be when closed. Attach with glue or decoupage. Once dried, using a sharp craft knife carefully cut across the design at the edge of the blind sections. For a little different look you can add a decorative shelf over the top of your window as a valance. Add cup hooks underneath and hang decorative items such as dried flowers or antique kitchen utensils under the shelf to add interest to your design.
