If you are looking for some quick and easy ways to spruce things up around your house without breaking the bank, look no further. You may be surprised by how easily and inexpensively you can get a fresh look. A little bit of fabric, some paint, stencils, or even stickers can add color and design where there was none.
You can make a new valance for your windows by using an old sheet or purchasing a new one. Sheets work great for window treatments as they already have finished edges and are lightweight enough to hang well. Measure and cut your valance to size. Use the hemmed edge of the sheet for a ready-made rod pocket. Hem the bottom edge and you now have a finished valance. Another option for your windows using a sheet is to simply drape the sheet across the top of the window using hooks or other items at the corners to drape the sheet and hold it up. Using sheets allows you to match the other decor in your room quickly and easily as well.
You may have some old blinds on your windows that still have plenty of wear left in them but are getting boring. There are several things you can do to dress these up and continue to get use out of them. Start by pulling them down and cleaning all the dust and dirt build up off of the blinds. Now determine the design you wish to achieve. Using contact paper you can cut out designs, stick them on the blind and spray paint the blinds the color you want. Once the paint has dried pull the contact paper design off and you will have an instant “stencil” design. For example, stars of varying sizes can be cut out of contact paper and placed on the blinds, which is then painted dark blue. Once you remove the contact paper starts you have a great blind design for a little boy’s room. The same design painted in pink gives the blind the perfect look for your little princess.
